1st Hour, Digital Photography
Frank Parkinson, 1st Hour, O'Donnell In this assignment we were tasked with taking pictures from around the school and using photoshop to add an entirely different context. We did this by using various tools to add effects and images that would've been uncommon to find around the school. Original Edited Version In this assignment I learned many valuable skills in photoshop, such as, selection methods, editing, cloning, shading, compositing multiple photos, and erasing. These tools are some of the most important and worth while skills to know, which I'm very thankful to have practiced.

Frank Parkinson, 1st Hour, O'Donnell In this assignment I was tasked with taking pictures of food. To capture some mouth watering pictures I set up a white background, some lighting, and used some cupcakes from my birthday this weekend to make some good looking photos. I also went over to Busch's to take pictures of some of the fresh produce sold there. I thought the shoot went very well. I was able to incorporate many aspects I wanted to, such as depth of field, filling the frame, and many more. One variable the affected the shoot was light and background. I had to take many shots for most of my photo ideas to get the right angle, so that an ugly background wasn't exposed and the lighting was just right. Lastly I learned some valuable knowledge in lighting, angles, depth of field, filling the frame, and many other food photography related skills Aperture: f/5.6 Shutter Speed: 1/60 ISO: 720 For editing I cropped the image to put more focus on the cupcake and slightly adjusted the brightness/contrast. Honorable Mentions:In this photoshop assignment we were tasked with taking pictures from around the school and combining them to create what is known as a panorama. This is a very wide photo that is made by combining photos in photoshop. In this assignment I went around the school and took pictures of our murals and art. I learned some valuable lessons in photoshop, such as photo merge and automate. I also learned some valuable knowledge in how to set up panoramic photography and how to take the pictures that will be useful in photomerge.
Frank Parkinson, 1st Hour, O'Donnell In this assignment I was tasked with taking pictures of the nature in Saline. To capture some pictures of nature and the beauty in Saline I went over to Mill Pond Park to take a majority of my photos. I thought the shoot went well, my original goal was to create a photo with a silky water effect and I took some photos that fit the category. Another variable that affected the shoot was the lighting. Since I was outside the pictures had a lot of light, a little too much actually. While trying to take the picture I couldn't take as long as a shutter speed that I want to because of the level of exposure on my pictures. Lastly I learned some valuable knowledge such as shutter speed practice, aperture practice, landscape photography, working with the elements, etc. Aperture: f/14.0 Shutter Speed: 1/6 ISO: 100 For editing I adjusted the brightness/contrast in to darken the photo to compensate for the brightness caused by the long shutter speed. Honorable Mentions:Frank Parkinson, 1st Hour, O'Donnell In this assignment we were tasked with touching up a picture of a sports car and trying to make our edited version look as close to the demo as possible. We were also told to use some specific tools that will be valuable in the future. Original Edited Version Demo What I Learned:This assignment taught me how to use some of these photoshop tools, which includes; cropping, cloning, levels, layers, and selection. These tools, although basic, are some of the most important and fundamental tools in photoshop and I'm very thankful and excited to have learned them.
Frank Parkinson, 1st Hour, Mr. O'Donnell For my second photo assignment I have chosen to focus on the nature subject. I am hoping to capture pictures of flowers, landscapes, and the natural beauty that is in Saline. During this assignment I will try to work on my skills in editing, exposure triangle, depth of field, etc. Here are some photographs I found online that I will use as inspiration: I think these are great examples of capturing nature. Some involve motion, and using long shutter speeds, and others are just still shots that capture the colors and beauty in nature. I'm going to try and take some pictures that involve the technique of long shutter speeds, in pictures involving water to hopefully create a silky effect.
Frank Parkinson, 1st Hour, O'Donnell In this assignment I was taking pictures of my dog Wrigley, and more specifically his activity and nature. I thought the shoot went well, but it was a bit difficult to get Wrigley were I wanted. I tired a few things to counteract this, for instance I used some treats to help get him to move and follow me. Another variable that affected the shoot was the scene. I was outside mainly to give the pictures some color, natural lighting, and that seems to be where he is most energetic. Lastly I learned in this assignment that animals can be hard to shoot and you can't always control the circumstances, so you must be attentive and ready at all the time to take pictures. I also learned it is extremely important to adjust the settings of aperture and shutter speed to get the best pictures of animals when they're are moving. Aperture: f/5.0 Shutter Speed: 1/2000 ISO: 500 For editing I adjusted the brightness/contrast in levels and cropped it a little bit. Honorable Mentions:Frank Parkinson, Mr. O'Donnell, 1st In this assignment we were tasked with learning some of the basics in photoshop and how to make pop art. We had to follow some steps, but it also took some problem solving and learning along the way. Original Pop Art #1 Pop Art #2 What I Learned:In this assignment I learned some of the basics of photoshop, such as, how to use filters, guides, resizing tools, commands, and layer tools. This will be very helpful in the future because I now know some of the fundamental tools in photoshop, which will help me continue to improve on this program and on my picture editing capabilities.
Frank Parkinson, 1st hour, Mr. O'Donnell For my first photo assignment I have chosen to focus on the animal subject. I am hoping to capture pictures of my dog, Wrigley, in motion. During this assignment I will try to work on my skills in aperture and shutter speed while taking pictures of my dog. Here are some photographs I found online that I will use as inspiration: I think these are great examples of capturing animals in motion and the techniques involved. Some involve some blur to show motion and some shows the animal "frozen." I'm going to try and take a picture of my dog Wrigley running, jumping, or doing something in motion that is natural.
Frank Parkinson, Mr. O'Donnell, 1st hour Shutter Speed:1/40 1/80 1/160 1/360 I had my friend and classmate, Tommy, run across the hall to show the different levels of shutter-speed and the motion blur, or lack of, involved. I used 1/40 first to show the motion blur. Then 1/80 (doubling it) to show a little less blurriness. Third I used 1/160 (again doubling it) to show a little more clarity and sharper image. Finally I used 1/320 (once again doubling it) to show a lot more clarity and sharpness. ApertureF3.8 F5 F7.1 F10 In these photos I was trying to show the depth of field use 4 different colored highlighters. The first picture which has an F-Stop of 3.8 is supposed to show the shallow depth of field where only the green marker is in focus. Next was an F-Stop of 5 and this one shows and defines a little bit more of the markers. Third was an F-Stop of 7.1 which, just as the others, gradually is showing more definition of the other markers. Last is an F-Stop of 10, which shows a lot more definition and a larger depth of field, to where you can start to make out Sharpie writing on the orange marker. What I Learned:In this assignment I learned how to use two of most important features in photography, aperture and shutter speed. Shutter speed is the amount of time the shutter is open and used in photos that involve motion. Which can create a "picture frozen in motion" and a picture that shows the movement with blurriness. Aperture is used to create a large or shallow depth of field. Learning these to aspects of photography will greatly help me in the future when taking photos and the practice I've had has helped me learn how to effectively use aperture and shutter speed
